Diecast: Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox and Others

Diecast models, made from molten metal or plastic in reusable moulds, have a rich history thanks to early manufacturers from before and after World War II.

Notable brands like Dinky, Corgi, and Matchbox played significant roles in the development of miniature cars.

These brands set the standard for quality and detail, but also captured the imagination of generations with their evolving designs that mirrored the real vehicles of their time.

Dinky Toys, started by Meccano in the 1930s, is known as the first maker of diecast toy vehicles. They produced many types of cars, trucks, and aircraft.

Corgi, which began in the 1950s, added new features like plastic windows and suspension. Matchbox changed the game with affordable, small models that came in matchbox-style boxes, making them easy to collect.
